“What is not documented, has not been done.” This is a quotation connected with the field of ambulant care. The German law requires the documentation of the kind and the quantity of care that has been carried out at out-patients. Today, employees of nursing services spend up to 30% of their working hours with the documentation of the work they have done. Could only this work be done partly through assistance functions, one would save valuable time that could be spent on out-patients.
The network project MARIKA is part of the “Landesforschungsschwerpunkt (Federal State main research field) "Mobile Assistance Systems"“ The universities and companies that co-operate in this project develop within its scope modules with the goal to automate a large part of the documentation chores. They thereby also use components from other projects of the “Landesforschungsschwerpunkt” like voice recognition.
The IT Science Center develops within the scope of this project drafts for the architecture and the interfaces for the individual modules. Additional modules are developed through the University of Rostock (automatic recognition of the nursing activity through the monitoring of motion, digital watermark for the signature of photos, data-mining components, indoor-/outdoor-localization), the companies CSB Hanse AG (electronic driver’s log), Arivis GmbH, Copendia GmbH & Co KG, and the Fraunhofer IGD institute for applied research in visual computing (eLearning).
