The project Marta is part of the "Mobile Assistance Systems" research initiative of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Germany and its scope is the development of new IT-tools designated for people who are mobile and in need of assistance, especially tourists.
The goal is to develop new technologies in cooperation with local companies in order to provide the IT- and tourist industry with state of the art applications regarding this market. This development is based on the combination of different data where we take advantage of already existing information and services.
For achieving the goal to present the information automatically and specifically with regard to the situation, it is necessary to develop tools that enable to manage and save information. In addition, it is necessary to develop tools that choose and design information which is based on specific knowledge and which is combined with a location based data management and localization of the user.
Furthermore, a modern user interface is being realized by developing language and dialogue systems and a voice entry and a voice output.
Not least, it is necessary to provide a reliable quality of online-services and to provide compressed multimedia information for mobile terminals.
The University of Rostock, the University of Applied Sciences Technology, Business and Design Wismar, the Fraunhofer Institute Rostock and the IT Science Center Rügen are working on this field of applied research.
